In the United States, recent internet technologies have evolved into four basic types of internet providers. The first type, dial-up internet service, is outdated and rapidly being replaced by the two most common broadband, or high speed, internet providers. Cable and digital subscriber line (DSL) are both considered to be high speed internet services, with relatively similar quality, convenience, and speed, using two different types of lines and technology.
