Roof Repair

September 2nd, 2009

A roof repair is a temporary solution which will allow you some time until a new roof can be installed. Depending on the age and type of roofing material, most roof repairs will last upwards of two years. Asphalt shingle repair may last up to five to ten years. Other materials such as built up roofs will last nearly twelve    months. With the cost of roofing material rising each and every year, a roof repair may be a great short term option. There are new products that are geared toward home owners that help them repair their own roofs. While these products are easy to install, they lack durability, and therefore the home owner will have to pay additional funds in the end. A licensed roofing contractor would be a great source of information when evaluating roof repairs versus a new roof installation.

There are other solutions when considering a roof repair. A tarp may be installed onto your roof until a local residential roofing contractor can come out to evaluate your roof system. Most tarps can be purchased at Wal-Mart or Home Depot. With a stapler, hammer, knife, and a ladder you may be able to water proof your home until a roof repair can be made. A home owner seeking a great price for roof repairs may choose to go to his or her local hardware store and hire an Independent Roofing Contractor directly. When choosing to repair your roof, be sure the company or individual you are dealing with has references as well as Insurance. The roof repair isn’t worth litigation if someone gets injured on your property. Also, the roofing contractor should make the home owner a beneficiary o the Insurance Certificate. If and when the roof repairs are completed, the roof should be tested with a garden hose to show that the leak has been repaired. In the final process of repairing or having your roof repaired, be sure to gather all final documentation for future references.
